Last week I was in London to see Andrew Bird play in Shepherds Bush Empire. It’s one of my favourite venues – an old beautiful theatre with amazing acoustics. The gig was really good and Andrew Bird showed an amazing talent sampling both violin, his own whistle and his beautiful voice live on the stage, which all turned into a one man orchestra. After the gig I went to visit french Dimitri who produces music for the likes of Placebo and Lily Electric and I got a shot of one of his cool tattoos.
During the day I had been catching up with my old hood in east London around Bricklane. I went to three of my favourite spots on Dray Walk by the old Truman Brewery. First a really cool bike with bikes in all colors which have been set up in a very arty way. I’m not obsessed with bikes or anything I just like the shop as a visual colorful experience. Second I went to Rough Trade which is the greatest record store I know. Indie, electronic, punk, Japanese, plenty of vinyls – whatever you fancy (www.roughtrade.com) and in cool factory-like surroundings. Last but not least I had pizza at Story Deli,
which is just opposite Rough Trade. It’s very nicely decorated with rough-hewn tables, little pod stools, big wax church candles and ambient music. They make pizzas like you have never tasted it before. Very thin and generously topped with well-sourced ingredients like; fresh veggies and pastrami, roast chicken and mushroom, prawn green peppers. Worth every penny! God I’m dribbling now thinking of those pizzas and I seriously miss London after writing this!

I agree, it’s a really cool post! Makes me wanna go to London tomorrow:-)
This summer I’m going to Barcelona, so it would be really nice with some tips / spots. After all it’s a city known to be greatest when you know the “secret” places…
